Tiros Libres – Peace, Posh, and Lollipops

By: Christian | July 19th, 2007

River lost 3-1!!

It’s a slow night in Chicago, hence my viewing the Victoria Beckham TV special, which if you haven’t had the privilege of watching, features Posh buying shoes, getting plastered, and cheating on her drivers license exam. Oh, and buying a sex doll as a decoy for hiding from the paparazzi. (The fact that she doesn’t seem to get that most people can’t tell the difference is, well, unfortunate.) What’s worse is that considering this began as a multi-episode series, I shudder to think what footage wasn’t deemed good enough to make the final cut.

In the meantime, in honor of River Plate’s strong, if ultimately disappointing run during the Peace Cup, check out these behind the scenes videos, featuring such gems as the squad shopping for electronics while sucking on lollipops, Daniel Passarella trying to decipher what’s written on some guy’s hat, a quick lesson in kung-fu, and my favorite, some of the lads signing autographs, and struggling to not look as bored and annoyed as they clearly are.

In other news, the MLS All-Star’s defeated Celtic FC 2-0, with former River players, Juan Toja and Juan Pablo Angel netting both goals. And former striker Ernesto Farias, who left to join Toluca this past off-season, has rescinded his contract with the Mexican club citing health reasons, and is on his way back to Buenos Aires. Apparently his wife suffered some kind of illness related to altitude sickness, and Tecla made the decision to return, however it’s likely he’ll be moving on soon to a club in Europe.

From one River Plate supporter to another in Chicago a big hello!

Hard to find other River Plate fans in the midwest let alone in Chicago. Hit me up if you want to catch a game at the Globe (or wherever) sometime.

    VAMOS RIVER!!!!
