Tiros Libres: A Ganar, Sí o Sí
By: Christian | October 18th, 2007It seems like forever since we last saw River play rivals Boca Juniors off the pitch in an emotional 2-0 victory. But with the international break (thankfully) behind us, our roller coaster ride of a season is set to resume this Sunday, as River will travel south to La Plata to visit Gimnasia, a match you can catch on TYC Sports USA at 1PM ET. Recently, several members of the squad have gone public saying that River sill has a chance, at least mathematically, of winning the title, though to do so would mean winning their final 6 games of the season, including a must win game against leader and current odds on favorite to win Independiente.
In a previous post I said that River’s season was dead and buried, and I certainly won’t go making any predictions now as to how the season will end. After all, we have yet to win away from home, and regardless of how low Gimnasia are in the standings (currently 17th), River are in no position to take anything for granted this late in the campaign. Then again, still flying high off their still inspiring win against Boca, los millonarios could use that momentum this Sunday to begin their miraculous comeback. Let’s hope so.
Probable lineup:
Carrizo
Ferrari Sánchez Tuzzio Ponzio
Fernández Ahumada Belluschi Buonanotte
Ortega Falcao
Where River are in the standings
Independiente - 25 points
Lanús - 24
Boca - 23
Tigre - 22
Banfield - 21
Argentinos - 20
River - 19

Boca campeon? Jugando como el domingo pasado no ganan ni el Torneo de Verano.
Oh, and Red Bulls?! LMAO.

River can still win the Copa Sudamericana (unlike Boca). They probably have a better chance of winning that than the Argentine league.

I would love for River to get an international title, but for starters they need to win a flipping game away from home.
