Tiros Libres: The Return
By: Christian | August 30th, 2007
*In a surprising development, former keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo, who had been sold to Lazio during the off season, will be rejoining River on a 6 month loan. According to Buenos Aires sports daily Ole, the Roman club did not want Carrizo to go without playing time for a season (there appears to have been a delay in getting his EU passport, preventing him from playing ), and not wanting to loan him out to a competitor in Serie A, a deal was made to send him back to Buenos Aires.
I think it’s great that Juan Pablo’s coming back, especially after all the great performances he gave us, but this loan deal strikes me as odd. If Lazio want to send him somewhere where he’ll get playing time, then why back to River where that position seems to be owned by Ojeda? And is Passarella really going to drop his starting keeper after performing so well this season? Let me know what you think.
*This Sunday’s clasico against Racing at el cilindro will be broadcast this Sunday on FSC at 5PM ET. Neither team is playing the best football, but this is always a big match, so mark your calendars for this one.

Ojeda has done well, especially today against Velez. But he’s simply not as good as Juan Pablo, especially on crosses. Still, since Carrizo will leave in January, there isn’t much point to this loan, since surely Ojeda must play to be ready for the Libertadores campaign?
