Superclásico: Thoughts

RIVER PLATE 2 – 0 Boca Juniors

One day.

What more can be said? It was one day. One glorious day for millions of River fans worldwide, whose eyes were fixed upon the Monumental stadium, watching from the terraces, in cafes, bars and pubs, or far away sitting on the edge of their seats in front of their televisions. Where in previous weeks they saw only bitter disappointment, yesterday they saw victory. Emotion. Fútbol. For this was the Superclásico. And in front of they’re adoring fans, who voiced their approval with cries of, “oleee, oleee, olee,” River put on a dazzling display of football, completely dominating a weak and ineffective Boca side.

Highlights? Take your pick. Radamel Falcao, with a hard hit golazo to open the scoring. Diego Buonanotte, who was so desperately close to scoring a deserved third goal for los millonarios, yet walked off the pitch to ovations from the crowd. A defensive line that looked sharp (sharp!), containing a talented Boca offensive threat which simply didn’t show up. Juan Pablo Carrizo; so many questions of late, none yesterday, as the keeper was more spectator then defender. And Ariel Ortega. El Burrito. Orteeegaaaa, Orteeegaaaa! The hero of the day. A maestro on the pitch. Hero, leader, playmaker. Heart and soul. Simply, River.

It was one day. And in the end, River Plate, yet again, the victors. The biggest in Argentina, El mas grande, lejos.

Man, there is no such thing as ‘millions of River fans worldwide’ – there are some in Argentina. And that’s it. Nobody likes the millionarios. ;) Boca all the way! We’re waiting….

Have you seen River’s filliales in Barcelona (Spain), Madrid (Spain), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Detroit (USA), etc.

“Boca all the way! We’re waiting…”

You are waiting? No.. Actually, we are still waiting for you guys to show up to the Monumental. It has already been more than two week since the Superclasico was originally supposed to be played! :D Oh well, maybe the Bosteros will show up in the next edition of the derby.
