River Close In On Final
By: Christian | July 16th, 2007![]()
Shimizu S Pulse 0 - 1 River Plate
It was the same starting XI, the same result, as River continued their impressive form at this year’s Peace Cup, beating Japanese side Shimizu S Pulse last night 1-0 in their second Group B match. Another goal from Matías Abelairas in the 34th minute was again the difference, in a game which also saw Danilo Gerlo sent off.
In the other night’s result, Reading FC defeated Lyon 1-0, which means River need only a draw this coming Thursday against the French champions to win their group. Remember, the winners of each group will advance directly to the final.

I haven’t been able to see andy of the Peace Cup matches (since they are not televised), but I’ve heard that we have been playing excellent football, both vs. Reading and vs. Shimizu S-Pulse.
This is good. I hope the team keeps up it’s level and doesn’t repeat the 2007 Torneo de Verano fake illusions.

The Torneo de Verano?? Yeah, I remember that, beating Boca on penalites and actually believing that we would go far in the Clausura and the Libertadores. We all know what happened then.
I ahven’t seen the games either, but all the dailes in Argentina are giving the team high notes. Now I believe that the games are being streamed on the official Peace Cup website, so I’ll check it out. It would be nice to see them play Lyon.
