River Campeon!*
By: Christian | June 11th, 2007
Ramon Diaz Leads Gata Fernandez, Christian Tula, Osmar Ferreyra, some other guys, to title…
Ok, so I guess you know where this is going. San Lorenzo de Amargo (that’s how you spell it, right?) captured the Argentine Clausura this weekend with a 4-2 win over Arsenal de Sarandi. “El Pelado” Diaz did what he accomplished with River so many seasons ago it seems, which is win championships, and win them decisively. It’s been a huge turn around for el ciclon; the last time I saw them, it was a wet and rainy Sunday at the Monumental when River completely abolished them 5-0, including a stunning goal by El Burrito Ortega. Ah, those days in Buenos Aires when River actually had a realistic chance at actually winning something. Remember those??
Instead, River got run out, literally, of Mataderos after a phantom penalty gave River a 2-2 draw over the weekend, ensuring them a spot in next years Copa Libertadores, and complicating Nueva Chicago’s hopes of surviving relegation. Can’t say I blame them for trying to get out of there so quickly. So far this year we’ve had a fan death, rival barra bravas fighting it out in the family area of el Monumental, elimination at the hands of, um, Caracas, in the CL, a fan being injured for hanging a flag during the superclasico, 2 stadium bans, fans rioting, losing to Godoy Cruz…am I missing anything?
We did get the Torneo de Verano though. Campeon!

Yeah, there’s plenty more. Like opinionated star Gallardo kicking coach “Mostaza” Merlo out of River.
Funny, little while after that event took place, Gallardo ended up being sold to Paris SG.
What else, River president Aguilar is involved in a number of scandals many of which are related to business with Barras Bravas.
And last but not least, River is dead broke. They sold Higuain and Gallardo just to pay debts. River is in trouble my friend.Posted from
