Radamel Falcao To Join F.C. Porto
By: Christian | July 14th, 2009
One of River’s most consistent and beloved strikers in recent memory is set to leave the club for Europe.
Radamel Falcao officially joined F.C. Porto this evening in a 4 year deal worth $7.6 5.5 million dollars. The 23 year old Colombian will play alongside former River stars Fernando Belluschi and Ernesto Farias as the Dragões try to go for a record, 6th consecutive Liga Sagres title.
El Tigre came up through the River Plate youth academy system at the age of 15 when he was discovered while playing for the Colombian U-17 team. After years in the reserves, he made his debut with the senior team on March 6th, 2005. Since then, he has gone on to score 45 goals in all competitions, and was a member of the 2008 Clausura championship squad, his only title with River.
The move comes after months of rumors about a potential transfer abroad. Though the player had maintained his loyalty to the club in recent years, it was really only a matter of time before this day would come. His scoring production, heart, and professionalism will be difficult to replace.
Said Falcao, “[River] has been the most important thing in my life. It has been my home, and one day I wish to come back.”
I join millions of River Plate fans who wish him the best of luck in this new phase of his career.

A sad day for River, hope he does well in Oporto, i think the game will suit him there.

Gutted. Is it just me or are European clubs taking the piss out of Argentine ones with regards to transfer fees? Both Palacio and Falcao have gone for nothing, yet the figures thrown about for inferior Brazilian based players are astronomical! I also read the fee is only for 60% of his rights which is good considering Lisandro Lopez’s fee to Lyon. In a few years hopefully this transfer could be worth a hell of a lot more to River.
