Gimnasia (J) - River Plate

By: Christian | August 23rd, 2007

It’s makeup day for River, who will be in Jujuy facing Gimnasia (J) to play their postponed match from three weeks ago. If you get TYC on Direct TV, you can watch it at 2PM CT.

Much has been discussed of Passarella’s failed 4-4-2 formation in the first half of last week’s game against San Lorenzo, and the complete turnaround in the second half when he finally switched to a 4-3-1-2, with Ariel Ortega as enganche. It looks like El Kaiser has finally listened to his critics, so look for Ortega to reprise his role as playmaker today. As for our opposition, I can’t say much about Gimnasia; I certainly had them pegged early on as candidates for relegation. Of course they did beat Racing last week, but given the way they’re playing this season, that doesn’t say much.

It’s still too early in the year for me to make any kind of gameday prediction, even against lowly teams like Gimnasia, but if River can play with the same intensity that they showed in last week’s second half, if Ortega can continue his fine form, and if we can find a way to score goals, then things could finally be looking up for us.

Probable Lineup and Formation

Ojeda
Ponzio Sánchez Tuzzio Ferrari
Fernández Ahumada Abelairas
Ortega
Rosales Rubén
