Copa de Verano: River Plate 1 – 0 San Lorenzo
By: Christian | January 29th, 2008A penalty kick from Sebastián Abreu was all River Plate needed tonight to beat San Lorenzo 1-0 and claim their second consecutive Copa De Verano. Diego Simeone’s change in formation appears to have paid off as los millonarios coasted to victory, and they were aided by a San Lorenzo side reduced to 9 men.
I completely missed the game thanks to the horrible weather here in Chicago, but below is a clip of Abreu’s goal (having previously been with San Lorenzo, he did not celebrate). Remember, River will face Boca again this Saturday in a rematch, so hopefully tonight’s victory can inspire the team to get even.

it seems Simeone wanted Ferrari to take the PK.
But Abréu took the ball, placed it and scored for River.
Later on, there was a second penalty kick for River.
This time Ferrari took it.
But Orión saved for San Lorenzo. (!)
El “loco” Abréu (Uruguayan) could score a lot of goals for the gallinas. He’s in good form and ready.Posted from

River played a good game – the best we’ve seen this year, in my opinion. Ortega was amazing in the 45 minutes he played, Alexis Sanchez came in during the second half and was incredibly inspired, Falcao played well, our whole defense was solid: overall, I was really happy with our display.

I always seem to miss the good games. I’m glad the team did well, and look forward to Saturday against the bosteros.

Well, how did we do Boca? Tried to find the score online, was it 3-2 River?
