Ariel Ortega to Leave River
By: Christian | August 4th, 2008According to a report just posted on La Pagina Millonaria, Ariel Ortega is set to leave River Plate and join United Arab Emirates club Al-Ain Football Club, in a 10 month loan deal worth $500,000.
The surprise deal comes only days after Ortega suffered yet another relapse as a result of his ongoing battle with alcoholism, which forced Diego Simeone to remove Ortega from training camp. With this latest episode coming only days before the beginning of the 2008 Apertura, and with relations between el Burrito and club at an all time low, the future of Ortega staying at River was essentially over.

Yeah, I was sad to see that. I’d hoped he was turning around. Still have good memories of him from his days with la lepra.

GOOD!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no room at my club for an unreliable drunk no matter who you are.
