Against Racing Club Tonight

By: Christian | January 18th, 2008

Tonight in Salta, River will play their second match in this year’s Copa de Verano against rivals Racing Club, which you can watch on FSC at 11PM ET. Check back later for starting lineups.

Also, if you haven’t heard the news, Argentina will face Guatemala in an international friendly that will take place at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on February 6th. The match is designed as a warm-up for Argentina’s 2008 Olympic campaign, so expect to see an albiceleste side comprised of young European talent along the lines of Agüero and Paletta. I’ll be posting more information on that as soon as it becomes available; be sure to check out the Argentina World Cup Blog for more.

Unfortunately, there’ll most likely not be any current River players getting the call-up from Under 23 coach Sergio Batista, but expect to see former stars Martín Demichelis and Javier Mascherano.

Somehow I missed that River was on FSC tonight – thanks so much for the reminder, man.

Yeah, I heard about the Argentina-Guatemala friendly. The best of it all? It’s in the LA Coliseum, meaning I’ll be able to see Demichelis, Mascherano, and others live. :D

As for River, did you see the game vs. Racing? I missed it, but I heard we didn’t play too good till the last ten minutes anyway.

I’ll write a short post later, but yeah, it was an undeserved “victory.” I have no idea what Simeone is doing with his 3-3-3-1 formation, but I think against Boca we’ll get a better sense of his tactics.

I’m probably going to fly out for the game. Hopefully “Pipita” will make the trip.

Are you seriously flying over here for the game?! :O Talk about being committed.

Anyway, I would recommend you buy your tickets online: purchasing them in advanced will result in free tickets to a training session the day before the game. See my post in the Friendlies thread in Bigsoccer (if you still visit the forums).

    Take care.

I am going to BA in February in time for the Feb 24th game. Is it easy to get tickets when I am there or where on line should they be purchased?
    Any help welcome!

You’re going to see River face San Lorenzo which should be an incredible match; they’re big time rivals and the atmosphere should be electric. And of course it will be the return of River coaching legend Ramón Díaz. I saw River spank SL 5-0 two years ago in the pouring rain, so hopefully you’ll have the same luck.

There are basically 3 ways to get tickets; buy online, buy at the stadium, or go with a group. Depending on how much time you have, a group tour makes sense since they provide transportation and usually lunch, although you will end up paying more.

You can buy tickets online at http://www.ticketek.com.ar. After you place the order, you can then pick up the tickets at any kiosk around the city. I’ve noticed in the past that not all games are sold online, and seat selection can be spotty, so bear that in mind.

Finally you can always head on down to the stadium and buy tickets there. The is obviously the cheapest option and as a bonus you can do a stadium tour while you’re there. Tickets go on sale a few days before the game.

I would recommend sitting in the terraces to experience the crowd, just make sure to get there early and to not stand directly in front of the goal, otherwise you’ll spend the whole game with a flag in your face.

If you need any other help let me know. I used to work in a hostel in BA and helped people get to the stadium all the time, so I’m familiar with different group tours if that’s what you prefer. Have fun!
