River Stars Past and Present in for Argentina Friendly
By: Christian | January 22nd, 2008The full roster for the Argentina – Guatemala friendly was released today, with several players of interest to River fans. As expected, former millonarios Gonzalo Higuain, Martín Demichelis, and Javier Mascherano were included in Sergio Batista’s 18 man squad for the February 6th game in Los Angeles, but perhaps the biggest surprise was the inclusion of Marco Ruben, the only active River player to be called up. I’ve discussed my thoughts on Ruben before; although he is a talented young prospect, he has yet to shine at River and might be better served moving on (though he did score in last week’s game against Racing). Then again, River can certainly use a goal scorer, so hopefully this will be the year he comes into his own.
All in all, this is a strong squad, and is a testament to the quality and depth of Argentine football. Should be a great match.
