River OUT of Copa Libertadores: Shame Tonight At The Monumental
By: Christian | May 8th, 2008I am in such a state of shock right now that I still can’t believe it: River Plate were up 2-0 with a 2 man advantage over San Lorenzo, yet shockingly conceded 2 goals in the 2nd half, thus going out of this years Copa Libertadores 4-3 on aggregate.
I can’t say anymore tonight. What a disaster.

So many things to say about this match (yes, feel free to make the comment about how I don’t have things to say about Argentinos’ matches…)…2 goal lead with a 2 man advantage with only 20 minutes left at home against a rival you always beat. What more is there to say? Of course Buonanotte picks the match against Argentinos to look like a God and then can’t connect on anything after…still….what a match. And to think I turned down tickets!

This was a very unfortunate loss. It gutted me and I’m totally heart-broken, not just because we lost, but because I expected them to make it through and they were 20 minutes from doing just that. Still, there is a lesson to learn here and I’d rather they learn from this than just turn my back on them, they played a great match until the penalty/red card incident with Botinelli and Falcao.

Una verguenza lo de River hoy. Como se les va a escapar un 2-0 a favor con 2 hombres mas?
Culpables? Todos: Los jugadores por tranquilizarse y no buscar el tercero. Aguilar por echarlo a Ramon y no traerlo a D’Alessandro. Pezzotta por increiblemente anular mal un gol de River, no cobrar un penal obvio, y no expulsar a Silvera (que luego participo en el primer gol de San Lorenzo). Simeone, por sacarlo a Augusto Fernandez y plantar un equipo defensivo despues del 2-0 parcial. La suerte, por no estar con nosotros, sino con los otros.. al final del partido no entraba ninguna!
La verdad que estoy lleno de bronca. No es una eliminacion normal. Cuando River pierde bien me pongo mal, pero no asi. Hoy estoy mal porque se podria haber ganado (o hasta goleado) tranquilamente si los jugadores se ponian las pilas.. si jugaban como la hinchada (que recibimiento dios mio), con huevos y corazon.
Lastima que el ano que viene va a ser aun mas complicado ganar la Copa. Carrizo y Augusto Fernandez ya estan vendidos y se van en Junio, y el prestamo del Chileno Alexis Sanchez se acabaria al mismo tiempo. Mientras tanto, Juventus anda preparando una oferta para llevarselo a Falcao.. asi que no cuentes con el tampoco.

Absolutely gutted at this score, shocked in fact! But as Dioni says, all focus must turn to the Clausura and quickly!
