River Plate 3 - 2 San Martín (SJ) - Final Score

By: Christian | March 19th, 2008

The last 13 minutes of our suspended 4th round fixture against San Martín in the Torneo Clausura were completed this afternoon, with River holding on the original scoreline of 3-2. The result gives los millonarios 12 points on the season and tied for 2nd in the table with Boca. This Sunday, River will visit current leaders Vélez.

I missed the match, but reports suggest that River never looked to be in danger. You can view the highlights here, and read out my original report on the game from two weeks ago here.

NOTES: Please check out Episode 15 of The Offside Podcast, where I discuss this past weekend’s violence in Argentina. … If you haven’t seen it yet, the new River jersey was unveiled yesterday, in an extraordinary unveiling that featured no less than Zinedine Zidane and former River great, Enzo Francescoli. Despite the fanfare, there really isn’t much new to this current design. You can view it for yourself here at the club’s official site.

I’m usually not a big fan of black kits, but the away one is pretty nice. It’s a good simple design, and its good they’re not messing with it too much.

Yeah, I always loved River’s black kits with the red diagonal stripe, so I am glad to see it back.

As for the third kit, I haven’t seen any official confirmation, but some sites indicate that they third jersey would be a plain purple one!?! :O We’ll see what happens with that.

The last few kits have actually bothered me. I never liked that the red band never quite made it up to the shoulder and never quite made down to the bottom in certain iterations.

The changes are subtle, but still make a big difference. I’ve never seen such a beautiful shirt and the design balances the elements very well. And I also can’t complain about the addition on the back of the neck, “El Mas Grande.” The black version is a great 3rd shirt, but I wonder if they are going to be debuting the away jersey with the vertical stripes? I hated the old 3rd jersey with the swooshing white and red shapes.

We’ve got Velez away this weekend. Tough match and a lot on the line. Simeone’s boy will be judged harshly if they don’t get the result.

I certainly don’t care for the 3rd kit, but I doubt we’ll see it much. I agree with Gonzalo that it’s nice to see the black kit with the red stripe again.

My personal favorite? A toss up between the Quilmes, or the long sleeve kit that had no advertising, just the banda across. Classic.
