River Plate 2 – 0 San Lorenzo
By: Christian | February 26th, 2008
I have decided that from this point forward, for the sake of the team, I will no longer be watching anymore River games live. Becasue given my history with missing certain games here and there, I swear that my absence from watching my beloved Millo will only lead to a long winning streak and a cache of trophies.
Yes, River Plate were victorious over the weekend, defeating rivals San Lorenzo 2-0 at home with goals from Radamel Falcao and Matias Abelairas. It was a victory that was not only important for a struggling side looking to impress it’s loyal but frustrated fans, but it was also a homecoming of sorts for Ramón Díaz, the legendary coach who led River to so much glory during his reign in the 90’s. Though his decision to manage San Lorenzo in 2007 came as a bitter blow, el Pelado nonetheless received a standing ovation from the sold out Monumental. Also wearing the wrong kit was another former River talent Andres D’Alessandro.
Can River build on this victory? Diego Simeone seems to believe so, as he ill be fielding the same starting XI for Wednesday’s game against América in the Copa Libertadores.

It sounds like pretty rough times for San Lorenzo, but at least they managed a point in the Copa Libertadores, if not in the league. Good luck to River in their cup match today.
