Tiros Libres: Al Fin

By: Christian | December 10th, 2007

* Mercifully, the 2007 Apertura is finally behind us, and River Plate ended it with the same futility they have shown in recent weeks, losing 0-2 away to Banfield. The result leaves los millonarios 14th in the table, and extends River’s winless streak to 5 games, a stretch where they have been outscored 11-2, including 3 straight shut-outs. You can watch the mess below.

* While nothing officially has been confirmed yet, River’s board of directors met today with Diego Simeone, and a deal could be announced as early as Wednesday.

* Finally, in today’s Diario Olé, former hero Hernan Crespo was quoted as saying that he would love to return to River. The star striker, currently under contract at Inter Milan until 2009, cemented his legacy when scoring both goals during the 1996 Copa Libertadores final against America de Cali, and has since then moved on to great success in Europe and with the Argentina national team. But age seems to be catching up, and a move to finish his career at the Monumental would make sense, not to mention give River a much needed boost in confidence.

Christian, is it normal for Banfields keeper to take spot kicks or was he taking the piss with that one? Great finish from him though.

    Rangers and River!

I believe he is a freek kick specialist, ala Rogério Ceni, albeit on a lower level.

I’ll be pushing for Rangers today mate. I think at Ibrox…could be enough to get that point. It’s a shame about Beasley though…

Beaten by the better team tonight, but if you get a chance to see Darchevilles miss at 0-1, OMG! >:(

    1-1 would have been enough!

You’re getting a player that when he was on, was one of the best midfielders in the league. Then again, his play was very sporadic, and he tended to get cold at times. But when he was hot, he was a strong presence in our midfield, and scored some impressive goals to boot. Congratulations because you are getting a top player.

Do you know if he can play in CL against Chelsea?

There are several players, Cristian Ledesma, Luciano Galletti, and Ezequiel González among them (I know there are more but those ones come to mind immediately.) To be honest though, I personally don’t follow too much of football in Greece unless thee’s a team in the Champions League.

There had been rumors of Rodrigo Archubi coming but I think that deal is dead. How has he been for you?

The press here says that Archubi will given to river plate plus 7 million euros.Ithink he is a litle weak for european football and a litle slow, especialy for cl level. But i’m not sure because we haven’t see him in very much games. When starts the new champion [apertura i think]?

It’s the Clausura, and begins in February. It’s the same fixture list as the Apertura with the home and away reversed.
