River Plate 3 - 3 Rosario Central
By: Christian | October 2nd, 2007![]()
Another day at the Monumental, another dramatic comeback, thanks again to red-hot Radamel Falcao who headed in the third and final goal in this past Sunday’s 3-3 draw to bottom-of-the-table Rosario Central. Given River’s perfect record at home this season and facing a weak Central, not to mention still emotionally running high from their dramatic win in the Copa Sudamericana this past Thursday, you certainly expected more from Daniel Passarella’s men. But by the 48th minute, River were down 2 goals and things were looking bleak. Andrés Ríos and Diego Buonanotte were able to even things up in the second half, but our perfect home record looked to be in jeopardy when Rosario went up 3-2 late into stoppage time.
Then the fireworks began. After being awarded a ridiculous amount of stoppage time by ref Pablo Lunati, Falcao came in yet again with a goal in stoppage time, much to the angry of the the Rosario bench, not to mention the visiting fans. But unlike the Copa Sudamericana match, it was only good enough to give us a draw.
As exciting as the match was, overall it was a disappointing outing by River. With both Independiente and Boca losing this weekend, as well as knowing that they have absolutely no room for error in the remaining Apertura schedule, one would have assumed that River’s objective should have been clear: to win at all costs. But overall the team looked distracted and out of sorts; of course they did not field their strongest squad, but against basement dwellers Central, this should have been 3 points.
Tomorrow it’s against Argentinos Juniors away, but the real fixture is the upcoming Superclásico.

It was an entertaining game from a neutral’s perspective, but the ref was just disgraceful. If I were a Central supporter in attendance, I would’ve raised hell.
cheers,
